Camper road trip along the French coast

roadtrip

To go on holidays and bring your own tent is super idyllic and primitive, but how nice is it if you have a ‘house on wheels’. More and more people decide to go on a holiday with the camper, perfect because you have a ‘real’ bed, stove and fridge. In the route planner of Breakzy we have added many places where ‘camper facilities’ are present anyway. Time to write a blog about the most beautiful places along the West coast of France. So, if you are free for a week any time soon, rent that camper, pack your bag and start your trip towards sunny La France!

La Bien Assise
Campsite La Bien Assise is just below Calais in the mountains and a green environment. You will find everything you can expect from a campsite here. The campsite has a covered and outdoor swimming pool, a typical French restaurant, a tennis court, a midget golf area, dogs are allowed and of course a shop with fresh French baguettes!
In the vicinity are several large cities who are worth a visit and you can easily reach them by bike. For example, the city of Calais (11 km by bike), famous for its long pier with beautiful views. On cloudless days you will have a spectacular view of the English coast from the pier.
The coastal town of Sangatte (14km by bike) is unique and the photo gives us enough reason to quickly plan a visit. From Utrecht you drive to campsite La Bien Assise in about 3.5 hours.

Les Aubépines
At this spacious campsite, Les Aubépines, located next to the Bay of Somme your holiday can start immediately. The campsite organizes various activities for different ages. Such as Zumba classes, archery and tennis. All the materials needed can be rented at the reception. In the high season hiking tours are organized with a guide through the beautiful nature. Nice additional: the tours are totally free!
In the surrounding of the campsite are many things to do, a 130 km long cycle route along the beautiful coast and cultural history sightseeing is an experience you don’t want to miss.
The campsite is located in ‘Ferme Du Champ Neuf’ and is about 400 km from Utrecht. The photos below will give you a nice impression of the campsite and the nature park nearby (photo 2).

Breakzy tip: just before Saint Malo you will find Mont Saint-Michel, Mont Saint-Michel is an important pilgrimage as well as one of the most famous France’s touristic attractions and is located in Normandy. Mont Saint-Michel is surrounded by the sea and that makes the way to this place bounded to the ebb and flow of the sea. Curious? You can find the stop here.

Campsite La Rafale
Campsite La Rafele is located right next to the beach and this makes the view from your campsite spectacular. Waking up in the morning with your feet in the water and end your day with the sunset while you’re lighting the barbecue. This campsite with just 33 pitches is small and intimate which makes it necessary to reserve your pitch timely in advance. Saint Malo, the harbour city close to the campsite offers many places to visit (photo 2). Are you dreaming of a trip with a submarine? In Saint Malo it is possible! The route from Utrecht to the campsite is about 800 km.

La Briquerie
La Briquerie is located in the middle of Normandy just 6 minutes away from the beach and the harbour of Honfleur (photo 2). In the surrounding of the campsite  are many places to visit and things to do. Honfleur has a rich cultural history which you will feel as soon as you enter the old city centre. The beaches of D-day and the many museums you can visit here make the place the perfect holiday destination for both summer and autumn season. Active holiday lovers will certainly be in the right place as well here. Activities as play golf, fishing, several water sport possibilities and nice shopping centres offer the chance to combine a relaxed holiday with active days. All of this is just 20 km away from the campsite of La Briquerie. The campsite pitches are always around 100 square meters and shady, specially made for caravans and campers. It is therefore not allowed to camp here with a tent.

Breakzy Tip: ‘Quimper’, Quimper is a small art town with several museums such as Museé des Beaux Arts and Museé Départemental Breton. In the city you will also find many timbered houses and the Gothic cathedral Saint-Corentin. In or nearby the city centre you can easily find places to park your car. Curious? You can find the city here!

City campsite Kerhostin
‘At the edge of the world’, that is what is looks like, this campsite at the Atlantic Ocean but if you look closely you will find the small piece of landscape ‘Saint Pierre-Quiberron’. And that is exactly where a lot of campsites are situated, one of them is City campsite Kerhostin. Mainly you will find here a lot of beaches like for example on photo 2 but just 300 meters further are also plenty of shops.
The campsite is primarily intended for people who are looking for a quiet and peaceful place without too many extra’s. The campsite offers sufficient sanitary and because the campground is from the municipality you pay 100 euros for 2 persons for one week. The campsite is just 100 km away from Utrecht.

If you haven’t had enough of the culture yet you may also like to visit the Megaliths of Carnac situated close to Saint Pierre-Quiberron. Also known under the name ‘Stonehenge of France.’ The Megaliths of Carnac are almost 4000 megaliths or ‘menhirs’ of about 7000 years old. Some parts of the Carnac Megaliths are free to visit during the winter period, in summer you might need to reserve a guided tour, you can do this in advance via the website. It is advised to visit the megaliths with closed shoes. You can find the stop here!
